RECYCLING INSTRUCTIONS

FOR THE PACKAGING USED IN YOUR ARABICA AT HOME DELIVERY

At Arabica we have taken time and care in selecting packaging that works for both our products and the environment by carefully selecting suppliers that meet our high standards of quality and sustainability.

We try to avoid use of plastics and any other materials which aren’t natural, renewable and sustainable. However, sometimes it is preferable to use a packaging component made from plastic, due to the materials specific characteristics such as rigidity or suitability for travel without compromising quality. Plastic isn’t compostable, so reuse or recycle it if possible.

THE BOX

Recyclable. Double walled to protect the contents of the box. The cardboard delivery boxes are produced using recycled materials with FSC standards, and are easily recyclable at local authority waste depots, therefore can be deposited in your house cardboard recycling.

CARDBOARD SHRED FILL

We make this ourselves by shredding all of the boxes and cartons our produce arrives in, which helps to offset our recyclying and waste. This can be deposited in your house cardboard recycling.

WOOLCOOL LINERS

Woolcool liners can be re-used, returned for re-processing to new Woolcool liners, recycled and composted. Wool is an amazing Smart Fibre: not only is it natural and sustainable, but is a superior insulator! Wool is one of the most sustainable natural materials, being available in abundance as a by-product of rearing sheep. The wool insulation is totally compostable and biodegradable, releasing valuable nitrates back into the soil. In addition, the use of Woolcool liners reduces the need for more ice packs.

Re-use instructions

Examples of re-using the wool include:

Protection for plants, flowers and trees from frost; Feeding roses and keeping slugs off plants; Keeping takeaways warm; Keeping drinks/food cold on the beach; Donation to homeless or animal shelters; Van/Car lining; Pads for kneeling when gardening; Picnic hampers; Hanging baskets; Pet baskets; Cushion stuffing; Homework projects; Craft projects; Pipe lagging and Draught excluders.

If you prefer for the wool liners to be re-used by Woolcool, simply collect up 10-12 Woolcool liners, print your own returns label here and send them back via one of the 7000 Collect+ shops across the UK for them to be re-processed.

Recycle instructions

If you aren’t looking to re-use the Woolcool Liners, simply remove the plastic liner, this can be put in with the standard plastic recycling, then the wool liner can go into either a compost bin (if available) or dug into the soil in the garden; the wool will release valuable nitrates back into the soil as it breaks down. Some local authorities will accept the wool in household garden waste bins, it is just a matter of checking with the local council to find out what recycling facilities are available in your area. Even if the wool is going into the general waste, it will break down in landfill.

The plastic used in the sleeves are easily recyclable at local authority waste depots.

ICE PACKS

Hydropack ice packs are the strongest and most durable gel ice packs available; withstanding over 200kg of weight without bursting. This special material is fully recyclable and certified as completely food contact safe and designed to maintain food at frozen temperatures.

Re-use instructions

All of our ice packs are totally reusable, just wipe them clean and use them again by re-freezing.

Recycle instructions

Hydropac’s Ice Packs (gel and water) are made entirely of Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) material which is completely recyclable through your normal household recycled collections, but don’t forget to empty the contents down the drain or even water your plants with it – the water in the gel is the purest there is, your plants will love it!

The unique passive cooling gel formula uses an FSA & FDA approved non-toxic polymer that is completely food safe. It is mixed using highly purified water that has been through 6 stage filtration, UV sterilisation, softening and a chlorination process.
